Leader

Always in play. Sets your life, colors, and the last life you have to defend.

← How to play One Piece

What it does
Your captain. It is not in the 50-card deck. It attacks, takes the final hit, and tells you which colors you may play.
When you play it
Before the game starts — you choose one Leader and build the deck around its colors and life.
Beginner trap
Building a pile that ignores the Leader’s color. Off-color cards are not playable. Also: forgetting the Leader can attack every turn once it is ready.

A Leader is the card you put on the table first. It never goes to the trash from a normal KO the way a Character does — when life is gone, the next successful attack on the Leader ends the game.

The color icons on the Leader are a lock. Your 50 cards must match those colors. Dual-color Leaders open two piles and usually sit on 4 life instead of 5.

Leader effects are always on. Read the text before you shuffle. Some Leaders want you to trash cards, some want DON!! attached, some want a specific crew in play.

In this catalog a Leader printing is still a collectible row. Manga and AA Leaders are the same card for play — sleeve the cheap one if you are nervous.
