Card type
Energy
Fuel for attacks. Usually one attachment per turn. Types match the attack cost.
- What it does
- The resource. Attacks list Energy symbols. You attach cards from hand to pay those symbols.
- When you play it
- Once per turn, from your hand, onto one of your Pokémon in play. Some cards let you attach more.
- Beginner trap
- Attaching a second Energy “because you have it,” or putting Energy on a Bench Pokémon you will never promote.
Basic Energy has a type: Grass, Fire, Water, and so on. Special Energy has extra rules. Both count as Energy cards.
The one-attach-per-turn rule is the heartbeat of the game. Extra attachments come from Trainer effects, not from ignoring the rule.
When a Pokémon is KO’d, its Energy goes to the discard with it unless a card moves them first. That is why people retreat a wounded attacker — to save the Energy.
A beginner deck that is half Energy will not draw Pokémon. A deck with eight Energy will stall. Theme decks are already counted; copy that shape before you invent a ratio.
